AUG 5: A fighting Central Railway Parel Workshop CRPW held Central Railway Mumbai Division CRMD to a goalless draw in the Mumbai District Football Association Harwood League match at the St Xavier8217;s ground, Parel today.
With a 1-0 win over Chembur English last Friday, CRMD entered today8217;s match as favourites against the CRPW, who had lost both their previous encounters in the league.
But while CRMD were not upto expectations, CRPW did come up with some good play. In the 12th minute, Workshop left-half Vallarian Rodrigues came up with a fine left 8212; footer to striker Clive Rodrigues who tried to head the ball into the post. But with two CRMD defenders trying to pin him down, Clive could not power the header enough, making it a nursery stop for goalkeeper Anthony D8217;Souza.
Entering the secondhalf 0-0, CRMD got some chances to register a goal but could not capitalise on them. The 72nd minute saw CRMD striker Narendra Karanjkar get past the CRPW defender V Shetty, who had a consistent match. Karanjkar passed the ball to right 8212; winger Tony Das who tried to net with a back 8212; volley. Though struck firmly, he unfortunately misdirected it. A dumbstruck Das stood there with his hands on his hips displaying his team8217;s feelings.
In a Division II league match earlier, Bombay Republicans outclassed Mumbai Mahanagar Palika Kreeda Bhavan 2-1 in the Shivaji Trophy.
Aston D8217;Souza and Sujit Kumar scored for the Republicans who lead 2-0 at half time. However MMPKB were able to reduce the margin with a solitary goal by Shailesh Shirke.
