8226; RSS mouthpiece Organiser recently heaped praise on Sonia Gandhi for her leadership qualities. Now veteran RSS ideologue M.G. Vaidya has advocated a Congress-BJP alliance for the longer interest of the nation. Writing in Marathi daily Tarun Bharat Vaidya asserts that the Congress and BJP have identical policies in economics and external affairs and their coming together would augur well for the nation. Indira Gandhi is said to have taken the RSS into confidence during her premiership. Among Rajiv Gandhi8217;s closest advisers were those who professed RSS ideology and are now openly with the BJP. Narasimha Rao, according to his own Home Secretary M. Godbole, appeared to have been committed to the Hindutva ideology. His role in the Babri demolition is proof of this. It is a common feeling, particularly among Muslims, that the original Congress died with Nehru and the present one and the BJP are two faces of the same coin.

A fearful lot
8226; Why do employees of the Airport Authority of India fear privatisation? The answer is simple. We all know that most government employees are lazy, inefficient, corrupt, unpunctual 8212; in a word, unaccountable. In private organisations, you are accountable, you should be efficient, punctual and give results. There is the threat of disciplinary action if you don8217;t. If the striking employees have faith and confidence in themselves, why should it matter to them whether the organisation is privately owned or run by the
government?

Abandoned people
8226; At last the modernisation of Delhi and Mumbai airports were given into the hands of private consortia. The reason given for such a step is interesting. The government wants to make it world-class and passenger-friendly. These alterations could have taken place by the profit-making AAI without involving private partners. Though the employees are being assured of job security by imposing a mandatory deputation for three years, it is not clear who will go and who will remain after the completion of three years. The government seems least concerned about the future of the employees.

Don8217;t talk to Ulfa
8226; At a time when the ULFA is upping its violent activities, the central government is contemplating yet another rounds of 8220;peaceful8221; talks with its cadres. Why should the administration have a soft approach towards hard-core criminals whose sole aim is to spread violence and terror? The fact that the ULFA is increasingly targeting innocent children to press for their demand of 8220;sovereignty8221; is ample testimony of this. The government should allow the army a free hand in clamping down on ULFA whose terror tactics have made life miserable for the common man.
