
VADODARA, Sept 3: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on Thursday razed an unauthorised cabin under Mandvi Gate in the heart of the city.
There was a long-standing battle between the VMC and the person who owned the cabin, which was reportedly used by the police as a chowki. A large number of councillors had also opposed the presence of the cabin put up by a group of companies.
Representatives of the company had filed a writ petition in the High Court demanding that the cabin should not be removed. According to VMC spokesman, the cabin was demolished following a stay being vacated against demolishing the cabin.
Councillors had also raised objections on the city police continuing to use the place under the Mandvi gate. After several reminders, the police department had agreed to put up a proper tent which would not affect the beauty of the gate.
The operation carried out under the instructions of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel aroused lot of curiosity among the passers-by.
Then Mayor Ratilal Desai had announced in the General Board meeting that the cabin will be removed. Councillors cutting across party lines, including Rajendra Trivedi, Kiranmai Mehta, Kiran Gurjar and opposition councillors, had also demanded clearing the place under the Mandvi gate.
VMC Revenue
: The civic body is expected to generate revenue of nearly Rs 4.50 crore following property tax assessment 15,000 new houses between June and August, this year.
According to a VMC spokesman, the annual income from property tax is expected to touch Rs 9 crore mark.
Instructions: The Vadodara Fire Brigade has asked garba organisers to put up the decorations and gates at least at 13 feet in heights and 12 feet in, a spokesman said, width for fire tender to pass by in case of emergency, a spokesman said.
