MARCH 16: Anuradha Biswal created a new National record in the women’s high hurdles while three new Meet records were established on the second day of the Federation Cup Athletic meet here on Thursday.

The Bengal lass hurdled her way to win in 13.57 seconds, improving upon her own previous mark of 13.58 seconds and pushing her state-mate Debi Bose (13.89 sec) to second spot.

Gurudev Singh of Army claimed the men’s 20 km-walk with a new meet mark of one hour 28 minutes and 49 seconds in making it a 1-2 affair for his team. Amrik Singh, clocked 1:29:03 seconds in coming second.

Jagdish Bishnoi of Punjab hurled the javelin to 78.85m to claim the event with a new Meet mark, ahead of state-mate Satvir Singh, who could manage only 75.18 metres.

Asian Games discus silver medallist Anil Kumar, turning out for TELCO, claimed the gold with a creditable 59.55 metres to improve upon the existing meet record. Ajit Bhaduria of Bihar with an effort of 55.93 metres took silver.

PT Yesudas of Southern Railways bagged the 110 metres hurdles clocking 14.31 seconds.

Sanjay Ray of Uttar Pradesh, only the second Indian to go beyond 8.00 metres in the long jump, claimed the event with a modest effort of 7.60 metres.

Kerala’s Anil Mathew annexed the men’s 800 metres at 1:52.20 seconds, pipping Orissa’s Baiju Marandi (1:52.50) to the post.

Madhuri Singh, representing Punjab Electricity Board, took the event in the women’s section clocking 2:08.82 sec. Geeta Manral of UP took silver at 2:09.12.
