SINGAPORE, April 9: India8217;s former national champion and International Women8217;s Master Bhagyashree Thipsay defeated Lee Wing Lan of Macau in the inaugural round of the 11-round Asian Women8217;s chess championships here today.

Earlier, the Chrompet team from Chennai drubbed a Brunei team 4-0 in first round of the eleven-round Asian Cities Chess Championship. Ebenezer Joseph, Ravichandran, Sunderrajan, Kidambi, S Mari Arul and James Jayaraj comprise the Chennai team.
