Mumbai, Oct 30: St Anne8217;s School, Orlem and GN Khalsa College lined themselves up for a double each in the Multigames Inter-school state-level hockey tournament at Akola today. According to information received here, St Anne8217;s, representing Mumbai district in the tournament, defeated Aurangabad 3-0 in the boys under-14 semi-final, and accounted for Kolhapur 1-0 to advance to the boys under-17 final.

Three other Mumbai teams made it to the final; Durello Convent, Bandra, reachd the girls under-14 final, defeating Kolhapur 2-1. Khalsa boys defeated Kolhapur 6-5 via the tie-breaker full time 1-1, while the girls prevailed over Pune 1-0 in the boys and girls under-19 events respectively.The only team to lose out was St Joseph8217;s, Bandra, who bowed out 0-1 to Amravati in the girls under-17 semis.

SPG set for outright win
Shivaji Park Gymkhana looked set to score an outright victory over Parsee Gymkhana on the opening day of the Police Invitation Shield today. At the end of the first day in thetwo-day match, hosts Parsee Gymkhana trailed SPG by 108 in the first innings, and were struggling at 14 for three in their second essay. Parsee Gymkhana were laid low by Rupam Malviya8217;s spell of six for 38, and were bowled out for 81. In reply, SPG declared their innings at 189 for six, Amit Pagnis helping himself to a century.

Rohan tames Aniket

Vaze boys triumph
VG Vaze College defeated CR Employees Jr College, Parel, in the DSO Inter-school under-19 boys shooting volleyball division final at Vaze College today. The Vaze boys won 16-13 16-10. Vishal Bande,Tanvir Khan, Swapnil Tambe, P Parag and Paresh Rambadiya shone for Vaze, while Central Railway were served well by Nilesh Bhosale and Santosh Dalvi.

Police hold up match
The MDFA Super League match between Naigaum Police and Holy Family ran into controversy at Xavier8217;s Ground, Parel, today. With four minutes play left, and Holy Family leading 3-1, the Police custodian appealed for bad light, saying he could not sight the ball. The referees and officials ordered that play continue with a new ball. But the Police team objected, and walked out. A final decision on the fate of the match will be taken on Monday.
