How does the concoction work?
A concoction of turmeric or haldi which is anti-inflammatory, along with ghee which has medium chain fatty acids, and black pepper which increases the curcumin’s effect in turmeric can help in healing of the gut by removing toxins from the body, Dr Dixa mentioned.
According to Dr Vikas Verma, director, Shashvat Ayurveda, Chandigarh, ghee is rich in good fats and essential fatty acids. “It helps in smooth digestion and supports joint health and overall nutrition due to its lubricating characteristics. Therefore it is considered that ghee provides a relaxing effect on the body in Ayurveda,” said Dr Verma.
But why on an empty stomach?

“It has to be had on an empty stomach only (either you have it in the morning or at bedtime). An empty stomach helps with quicker absorption. Since it’s not a medicine and is considered a food combination if you take it post meals, it’ll get digested along with food leaving no additional benefits,” Dr Dixa mentioned.
This combination creates a synergistic effect that boosts the medicinal effects of each ingredient. “It is also considered to be a technique to rekindle the Agni, or digestive fire, which is necessary for proper digestion and nutritional absorption,” said Dr Verma.
Is it for all?
It is very necessary to consult your regular doctor before making any diet changes and it is very important to understand that every individual’s health condition is different so this blend will react differently. “If somebody has serious health concerns or diseases it is best to take advice from their doctor before taking this ayurvedic mixture,” said Dr Verma.
