Check out the 6 herbal teas that help manage PCOS. (Source: Freepik) Herbal teas are enjoying a surge in popularity, and there’s a good reason behind it. Scientific studies are increasingly highlighting their medicinal properties. These teas, crafted from a combination of spices, herbs, flowers, or dried fruits, offer a host of health benefits. They can also be effective in addressing certain hormonal disorders such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome primarily affects women of reproductive age and can be linked to genetic factors or elevated levels of male hormones known as androgens. It can manifest as irregular or absent periods, fertility challenges, excess facial or body hair growth, weight issues, and acne on skin.
While there is no known cure for PCOS, lifestyle modifications can effectively manage or even reverse the condition. Herbal teas have also demonstrated potential in aiding PCOS management.
In a recent Instagram post, nutritionist and health coach Mahima Sethia discusses six herbal teas that can assist in managing PCOS:

According to Dr Raj Vardhan, OSD Chairman at Noida International Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, various studies suggest that teas play a role in boosting energy levels, strengthening the immune system, and combating issues like stress, inflammation, weight management, cancer, and heart diseases.
He explains, “While spearmint tea’s anti-androgenic properties show promise in potentially reducing the presence of male hormones associated with PCOS symptoms, cinnamon tea has the potential to enhance insulin sensitivity and mitigate insulin resistance, a key factor in PCOS management.”
Dr Vardhan points out that green tea, rich in catechins such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), has the potential to enhance metabolism and fat oxidation, which can be beneficial in addressing PCOS symptoms exacerbated by excess weight.
It’s essential to note, however, that the effectiveness of herbal teas in managing PCOS may vary among individuals.
Ruchika Jain, chief clinical nutritionist at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, noted that PCOS can be effectively managed through a comprehensive approach. This includes ensuring adequate sleep, stress management, regular exercise, a balanced diet, weight control, and hormone-controlling medications.
While integrating herbal teas into this comprehensive plan can be beneficial, it’s crucial to use them in conjunction with medical advice and evidence-based therapies provided by healthcare experts. Herbal teas should complement, not replace, established medical treatments for PCOS.
