Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has held a record 37 public rallies for the first phase of local bodies elections in Maharashtra. In the first phase, a total of 222 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats will go to polls on Tuesday. The results will be announced on December 3.
In the short span of one week (November 22 and December 1), Fadnavis set out on a swirling tour, criss-crossing all five regions – Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, North Maharashtra and Western Maharashtra. The intense campaign undertaken by Fadnavis also evoked sharp reaction from opposition parties.
Fadnavis said, “We take every election seriously as it is an integral aspect of robust democracy. It also shows we take people’s mandate seriously and not take them for granted.”
In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, he held seven rallies at Udgir, Loha, Hingoli, Partur, Paithan, Beed and Khultabad. In Nagpur division, he held eight rallies at Umred, Wadi, Hinganghat, Bhadrawati, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Tumsar and Gondia.
In Amravati, he held five rallies at Yavatmal, Washim, Hivarkhed, Chikli and Dharni. In Nashik, he held seven rallies in Jamkhed, Sinnar, Trimbakeshwar, Shahada, Bhusawal, Kopargaon and Pimpalgaon Basmat.
In Pune, he held seven rallies at Akkalkot, Sangola, Chandgad, Karad, Uran Ishwarpur, Bhor and Alandi. In coastal Konkan, he held three rallies at Dahanu, Palghar and Badlapur.
Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal, who was among the only key opposition leader in the field said, “Our protest is against BJP’s misuse of power in politics. They are manipulating the system.”
