For the last six months, residents and IT employees in Hinjewadi have been demanding traffic jam-free and safe travel in the IT hub.
In yet another accident in IT hub Hinjewadi, two siblings returning home from school were killed when a speeding private bus carrying IT employees veered on to the footpath and hit them. Their sister was also seriously injured in the accident.
The Hinjewadi police said the accident happened around 6.30 pm between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and Wakad road. Police said the bus driver lost control over the vehicle, which strayed on to the footpath. The bus hit the kids who were walking home. Both died on the spot. Their sister and a pedestrian were injured in the accident.
The deceased siblings have been identified as Archana Deva Prasad (8) and Suraj Deva Prasad (6). Their sister Priya Deva Prasad (18) was injured and has been admitted to a hospital.
Senior police inspector Balaji Pandhare said, “The driver was allegedly drunk. He has been arrested.” Traffic was moving slowly, the driver lost control at a signal and strayed on to the footpath, he said.
