Unusual star cast turns USP for a film: Lara

Dutta said the factor will work in her favour with 'Challo Dilli',as it did for the Ranbir-Konkana 'Wake Up Sid'.

Actress Lara Dutta,who is paired opposite Vinay Pathak in their up-coming film ‘Chalo Dilli’,says the unusual cast is the USP for such films and that it helps luring audience to the theatres.

“If I have to remember an unusual star cast I would say ‘Wake Up Sid’ that had Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen. In our film as well,Vinay and me come from different film backgrounds…thats what interests the audiences as to why we have been paired. It acts as the USP of such films as people are eager to see it,” said Lara.

“Generally audience wants to see the unusual star cast as in why only these two actors were chosen for the film and what is their purpose in the film. Also,it is an added plus point for me when I got to know that Vinay is acting in it..I wanted to work with him,” she said.

When asked is Akshay Kumar doing a cameo in the film,the former Miss Universe said,”I don’t know who is there in a cameo role there can be anyone – Mahesh Bhupathi or Akshay Kumar…who knows.”

Directed by Shashant Shah of ‘Dasvidaniya’ fame,’Chalo Dilli’ is a journey which along with the two protagonists – Lara and Vinay showcases the real India and its colorful and funny people with their eccentricities.

About her role,the 32-year-old actress said,”I play Mihika Banerjee. I will describe her as an upper class elite,completely obsessively compulsive disordered perfectionist. She finds herself on a journey with Manu Gupta (Vinay) who is a Chandni Chowk resident,running a sari shop in Karol Bag. He is a burping,farting,pan chewing lower middle class sort of a man.”

She has no choice but to rely on this person as they get joined together on this journey. For her this journey becomes a hell while for Manu it is not a big deal,Lara said. “The film is about learning some truth about life..coming in contact with real people…real situations. It is not a social message film or anything like that. It is a fun and simple story. I can’t tell you if she falls in love with him or not. But its a real story. In this journey we had tried to add humour,human relations.”

It has been produced by Eros International in association with Big Daddy Productions of husband Mahesh Bhupathi and ‘Bheegi Basanti’ production. The film is set for release on April 29.
