The Maharashtra traffic police department has clarified that no e-challan settlement cases will be considered in the statewide Lok Adalat on December 13. The clarification was issued by the office of the additional director general of police (traffic), Mumbai, urging citizens not to fall for misleading information circulating on social media.
According to the department, efforts have been underway since 2021—through the approval of the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority—to resolve pending e-challan cases. However, officials have confirmed that no such cases will be taken up during the upcoming Lok Adalat
The police noted that several YouTube channels, Instagram pages, and other social media platforms were spreading incorrect claims that e-challan fines will be reduced or waived during the December 13 Lok Adalat. Authorities warned that such misinformation could potentially lead to financial fraud, advising citizens to remain cautious.
The traffic department has urged people not to trust rumours or unofficial posts regarding e-challan discounts or settlements. Citizens have also been advised not to make payments through any unauthorised links.
If any individual’s case has genuinely been listed for settlement by the district legal services authority, they should directly contact the concerned court or local traffic police, Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Sunil Bharadwaj stated, on behalf of the ADGP (traffic) office.
The department reiterated that all authentic updates will be issued only through official government channels and appealed to citizens to verify information before taking any action.
