Mumbaikar teaser: Vijay Sethupathi, Ranvir Shorey make Santosh Sivan’s action-thriller look intriguing
Satosh Sivan's Mumbaikar is a remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut film Maanagaram. The film, starring Vikrant Massey, Vijay Sethupathi, Ranvir Shorey, Tanya Maniktala, Sanjay Mishra, Sachin Khedekar, and Hridhu Haroon, will stream on JioCinema.

The teaser of Santosh Sivan’s much-awaited action-thriller, Mumbaikar was released on Thursday. It is backed by an “interesting mix of national talents” including actors like Vikrant Massey, Vijay Sethupathi, Ranvir Shorey, Tanya Maniktala, Sanjay Mishra, Sachin Khedekar, and Hridhu Haroon, among others. The film was announced by SS Rajamouli and Karan Johar in January 2021.
The teaser begins with Sethupathi telling ‘Mumbai Ka Don’ Shorey that he has kidnapped his son by mistake. The moment you hear Sethupathi speak in Hindi, you are reminded of him in Raj and DK’s web series, Farzi. Later, three other youngsters, from different backgrounds, get involved in the kidnapping of the don’s son, adding to the confusion about the identity of the actual kidnapper.
After the teaser was released, fans expressed excitement for the action-thriller. A fan commented, “Vijay Sethupathi, Vikrant Massey and the new emerging star Hridu Haroon. It will be pure entertainer 🎉.” Another wrote, “What an unbelievable cast! Superb!!!”
Mumbaikar is a remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut film Maanagaram.
Talking about the film, Santosh Sivan had earlier said in a statement, “Every city has its own spirit, and so does Mumbai that is synonymous with the spirit of resilience. It draws aspirants from all over India, both in terms of region and religion. And in the midst of the concrete jungle, there is a heartbeat that heals. Mumbai may be a metro, but Mumbaikar is an emotion. Hence the title. In terms of cast, we have an intriguing and interesting mix of national talents. And that adds to the magic.”
After working with Santosh Sivan and Vijay Sethupathi in Mumbaikar, Vikrant Massey admitted to learning a lot about his craft. He earlier told indianexpress.com, “To be in a position to watch these stalwarts was such a learning experience. What I have brought back from working on this film, I’m going to apply in my future work for sure.”
Mumbaikar, which also marks the Hindi film debut of Sethupathi, will start streaming on JioCinema on June 2.
