Maheep Kapoor tells Karan Johar that daughter Shanaya was ‘traumatised’ after her debut Dharma film was shelved

Maheep Kapoor opened up about daughter Shanaya's debut film Bedhadak being shelved.The film, announced in 2022, was backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

Maheep Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter, Shanaya Kapoor, was all set to make her Bollywood debut with the Karan Johar-backed Bedhadak. The film was announced in 2022, but was shelved for reasons best known to the makers. The news, however, left Shanaya traumatised. In the latest season of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, Maheep Kapoor could be seen discussing the problems she had to deal with in the past year, which also created a distance between her and her friend, Seema Sajdeh.

In the last episode of the new season, Karan called a meeting between Seema and Maheep, and encouraged them to sort out their misunderstandings with each other. During this, Maheep said, “I was going through my own madness in my head. I had exposed myself to my old parents, and Shanaya (after contracting COVID-19). We all fell down like ninepins. Understand the trauma that I was going through after Rekha (Maheep’s house help) had passed away, when doctors are saying that my old mother needs to go into hospital.”

She added, “Shanaya’s film didn’t start. She was traumatised. You had to intervene.” Pointing towards Seema, Maheep further said, “I was not there for her. But that is something that she needed to understand, which she didn’t.” Seema quickly clarified, “I didn’t need her to be there for me at that point, please understand. I needed to be there for her, and she didn’t allow it. That is my grouse with her.”

In another episode, Maheep was seen taking Khushi Kapoor, Shanaya, and her son Jahaan for dinner in Mumbai. At the dinner outing, they played a game where each one of them have to list one thing they are grateful for and one thing they are looking forward to. When it was Shanaya’s turn, the budding actor said, “I am grateful for Pablo (her pet dog). It is a fact. And I am looking forward to start a shoot again.”

It seems like Shanaya is currently working on some project. In another episode, the star kid skipped Gauri Khan’s party. Revealing why, Maheep told her friends, “She had to shoot the whole day today. She was extremely exhausted.”

Bedhadak was supposed to feature Shanaya, Gurfateh Pirzada, and Lakshya. Shashank Khaitaan was roped in to direct the film. An official announcement with posters was made over two years ago. However, the film couldn’t see the light of the day. Shanaya will now make her acting debut with a pan-India Telugu-Malayalam film Vrushabha. The film will also star Mohanlal in the main lead.
