She sold girls worldwide, caught by Gujarat cops

Pune has emerged a major link in an international flesh trade and girl trafficking racket with the crime branch of the Ahmedabad police arresting a city-based woman,Jaywanti alias Hema Mohan Gangwani,on Tuesday.

Investigations by the Ahmedabad police have so far revealed that Gangwani and her partner Kamala, who also hails from Pune, had sold many girls to international customers. These include the sale of a girl to an Arabian for Rs 80 lakh. The Ahmedabad police will arrive in Pune soon for further investigations.

Usha Rada,Assistant Commissioner of Police in Ahmedabad, said over telephone that Gangwani had forced schoolgirls from good families into sex rackets. She did not reveal, however,if Gangwani had sold schoolgirls from Pune too. She did not reveal Gangwani’s Pune address either.

Acting on a tip-off,a team from Ahmedabad nabbed Gangwani and rescued two minor girls from Indira Nagar. They said Gangwani on Tuesday afternoon had asked three girls, who were returning from school,to accompany her for attending a prayer at her house. The girls resisted but only one got away.

Gangwani forced the other two girls into a car and drove off. When they reached Indira Nagar,a man inside made the car stop, asked Gangwani to wait and drove away saying he had to refuel at a petrol pump.

Once outside, the two girls started a scuffle with Gangwani. It was then that a crime branch team arrived and nabbed Gangwani.

During interrogation,Gangwani reportedly told the police that she had been in the “business” for the past nine years. Police suspect that Gangwani is associated with many agents who helped her sell girls to high-profile customers.

Police said Gangwani had parted with a Pune-based partner and shifted to Ahmedabad last week. She was staying with a relative at Sardar Nagar in Ahmedabad.
