Indias Indu Ojha broke two records in the squat and dead lift categories,to put a cap on an excellent performance by the Indian lifters at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships,being held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City,Balewadi on Thursday.
Participating in the 60 kg womens sub-junior category,Ojha lifted a total of 117.5 kg in the squat category beating Rekha Vyas previous record of 110 kg. In the dead lift she lifted 121 kg again to beat the record of Rekha Vyas which was 120 kg.
In the senior womens 56 kg category,Tejaswini Naidu broke the dead lift record previously set by Jenny Hunter of England by lifting a total of 171 kg. In the junior womens 67.5 kg category,Surya Prabha of India broke the squat record set previously by Cene Pettit of South Africa by lifting a total of 153.5 kg. Among the winners,Rajlaxmi Singh won gold in the 56 kg sub-junior womens category by lifting a total of 215 kg.
In the same weight group,Tejaswini Naidu won gold after lifting 398.5 kg. In the 60 kg category for women,Rekha Gogoi won gold in the M-1 category after lifting 157.5 kg. In the 67.5 kg womens category,gold medals were won by Vallari Deolekar in the Sub-junior category,Surya Prabha in the Junior category,Vishya Kadam in the senior category and Bhagwati Devi in the M-1 category.
In the 67.5 kg mens category,golds were won by Kiran Sanas in the junior group,Devender Singh in the senior group,Bhaskar Rao in the M-1 group and Ramkrishnan S in the M-2 group. In the 75 kg mens category,Krishnan Kumar,Amit Kumar,Rajesh Govind Parab,Hemachandra and Vijayarangan won gold medals in their respective categories.
