Going vocal

Koko, guitarist from Agnee, debuts as a vocalist with a song dedicated to Pune

Always on the music front as Agnee’s guitarist and music composer,Koko is making a debut with vocals in the band’s upcoming album ‘Reveal Yourself’ with a song dedicated to Puneites. “I’m really not a professional singer, but I can sing in tune. Whenever we jam, singers like Shurti Pathank,Shilpa Rao,Monali Thakur and others bully me into singing,” he says.

Koko dawned on the idea of singing as he was heading to the studio with the band’s vocalist K Mohan to work on this song. “I just blabbered that I should take a shot at singing this song myself and Mohan pounced on my comment. He literally forced me into singing this track. Though I was excited and nervous in the beginning,I am happy about the fact that I gave it a try,” says Koko, who insisted on being prepared with singer Nikhil D’souza, just in case his debut doesn’t work out well.

He admits that to sing alongside Mohan was an ordeal for him. “He has such a powerful voice that even professional singers also get a little worked up when they sing with Mohan. So one can imagine my condition!” laughs Koko. He adds that Mohan was very supportive and the song has turned out to be just as they thought. The song,he says,is a tribute to the Pune and its people. “I am glad that a song so close to my heart is the one I have debuted with,” he adds. Agnee plans to introduce a contest based on the lyrics of the song later this month.

The band will perform in the city on Monday,July 23 at Inorbit Mall,Nagar Road.
