Considering the number of big-budget films being released in the next few weeks (My Name is Khan,Teen Patti and Karthik Calling Karthik),how does a small film stand out and pull in the crowds? Dibakar Banerjee of Oye Lucky Lucky Oye fame has a new film Love,Sex aur Dhoka (LSD) up for release on March 19,but even the sensational title is no guarantee for packed halls. Banerjee is counting on a series of contests based on his film, which are creating a minor stir on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter these days.
The LSD contest allows anybody to upload on our site their own videos on the theme of love, sex and betrayal. Balaji Telefilms and I will be the judges. The winner gets to attend the international premiere of LSD and work on the script of an upcoming Balaji film, says Banerjee. The film should not exceed 10 minutes and 10 MB and can be shot even on your camera phone. Many filmmakers are taking Internet promotions seriously, especially makers of small films which target the metro audience. Before the release of Paa,director R. Balki held a similar contest online, and Ram Gopal Varma had tried a similar gimmick while promoting Phoonk. Beside his Dare to watch it alone contest,he had launched an It happened to me contest, where participants were invited to share their personal stories of ghostly encounters and other-worldly experiences.
