After the high-adrenaline,though controversial, music and lyrics of Yo Yo Honey Singh, the Punjabi music industry now has Baba Honey crooning Brown Legs,a song from his latest album, also called Brown Legs. There is no similarity between Honey Singh and me. Our music is as different as chalk and cheese and I am not inspired by him, says the new Honey. The baseball cap,the bling, the tattoos, the French beard, the rap elements, and the fact that hes singing Brown Legs,an instant
reminder of Yo Yos Brown Rang, are simply coincidental, according to Baba. This is not my first album, its my third, says the 26-year-old music composer-cum-vocalist,whose previous albums were called Balle Punjabis and Bombshell Billo.
On Babas CV are also a T-Series 2011 remix album in which he sang Saadi Gali. In Chandigarh to release Brown Legs (Universal Music India),Baba says his tracks attempt to capture contemporary vibe and culture. Comprising eight songs, the Punjabi-pop album is more for the club-hopping youth, who have already been fed on Yo Yos music.
Babas story starts in Hamirpur,Himachal Pradesh,as a boy called Hanish Kaushal. He joined the Merchant Navy after graduation and would occasionally sing at shows and with friends. Popularly known as Baba Honey,he stuck to this monicker. Honey is my pet name, and I created my own look and music. Till you dont do something that is in your face, you will not be noticed, says the singer.
Interestingly,he chose to sing in Punjabi rather than Himachali or Dogri. He does not deny that there is more work, money and shows in the Punjabi industry than in Himachal. Three years ago,Baba shifted base to Mumbai and,a move that he now regrets, sold his rights to the Bombshell Billo song to singer Mika. He also sang the title track for recent film I am 24 . He has also given the playback for Akshay Kumars next.
