Heaven is like cotton; soft, white, pure, clouds of cotton,” as vague as she sounded at first,Minissha Lamba managed to find words and float on a ‘candy floss’ moment during her ‘Vote for Cotton’ stint at The Taj. Brought to the city by Cotton Council International,Minissha was here to facilitate the winners of a seven-day long cotton extravaganza and initiate,on behalf of Cotton Council, the ‘Gift a cotton’ donation drive in association with Care for India.

“Cotton’s perhaps the most commonly used fabric. Human beings (still don’t know why she said that!) primarily wear cotton,” Minissha continued with her quest to make a perfect cotton cut. “Not only is it friendly to human skin,it’s a feel-good fabric, one that’s hygienic, classic, eternal, comfortable, breathable, and yes, heavenly,” Lamba also catapults the fabric to the chic fashion circuit. “Every other synthetic fabric has a limitation, but cotton, never,” the bloody red nail paint and glittering heels apart,Minissha’s made-to-order empire-cut dress by the winning designer from Delhi Nitya Bajaj, was the highlight of the day. “It’s a satin cotton stretch, and I’ve designed it keeping in mind Minissha’s pear-shaped body. The pencil cut is the key silhouette, and the pink colour with embellishments goes with her spirited nature,” tells Nitya who’s designed outfits for Prachi Desai,Diya Mirza and Celina Jaitley for Cotton Council. In fact, she’s worked with Manish Malhotra on Om Shanti Om’s costumes, and done costumes for Kal Kisne Dekha Hai. “I love the whole bling take on Bollywood,” Nitya’s now planning to open a store in Chandigarh too! “I’ve seen women shop around Delhi looking for the perfect bridal wear or a party outfit, and going by their love for extravagance,I’ll be bringing in more of wedding grandeur and bling,” she moves as Minissha comes in and gives her take on fashion. “I feel India’s become this one-stop shop for diversity. India has so much to offer,to export…it’s only when some foreigner stamps his signature on it do we sit up and take notice. But now is the time to wake up to our potential,” she speaks like a true campaigner. On the filmi front, all we got was ‘Well Done Abba’ with Boman Irani from her. “It’s a political satire by Shyam Benegal,” and obviously Minissha’s thrilled to be part of it. “Because he’s a veteran filmmaker par excellence and I always aspire to be better and dream bigger.”

If you’re still reading, then here’s something to apply your mind at – Cotton Council’s out with a design competition called Tee Zine. It’s pan India and the winning Tee makes it to the shelves of United Colors of Benetton and Cotton Council outlets. Log on to http://www.allaboutcotton.com or email designs to teezine09@gmail.com. Like Minissha says,“it should be wild and whacky!” Got it?
