A film commissioned by YouTube,documents one day in the lives of netizens across the world

What is a bright and sunny day for one person could be a hot and muggy one for another. And,depending on how they feel,people plan their day. Now,a film,Life in a Day,has documented the drama,feelings,events and friendships that unfold over 24 hours in the lives of people across the world. Commissioned by YouTube,the film has netizens documenting one day in their lives.

When YouTube announced the project,they received 80,000 submissions,resulting in 4,500 hours of footage. The final product is an almost 100-minute-long film that includes footage from 140 nations. “Every day,6.7 billion people view the world through their own unique lens and this is our way of collecting these perspectives and moulding them into a cohesive story of a single day on earth,” says Amit Aggarwal,country head,content partnership,Google India.

The movie will soon travel to India,the country that submitted 1,600 entries — “the second-highest after Australia,” says Aggarwal.

Directed by Oscar-winner Kevin MacDonald,Life in a Day is a compilation of different videos uploaded on YouTube. It does not have a fixed plot but zooms in on everyday happenings like a man commuting to work,a neighbourhood soccer match,or special moments like a baby’s first steps,a marriage or the death of a loved one.

Produced by Ridley Scott,the film has been screened to wide acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival,the Berlin Film Festival and the Sydney Film Festival among others and is presently playing at theatres in the UK and the US.

You can check the “Life in a Day Trailer Remixer” online. “On the page,one can also edit and publish one’s own trailer to share with the world. All trailers will appear on the Life in a Day channel and National Geographic may feature some of their favourites at the film’s premiere,” says Aggarwal.
