Meenakshi Lekhi biography

Meenakshi Lekhi is a BJP leader and former MP from the New Delhi constituency. Lekhi’s journey with the BJP started when she was invited to join the party by Nitin Gadkari in 2010. Lekhi, 56, has also served as the National Spokesperson of the party.

Born in Delhi on April 30, 1967, Lekhi did her graduation from Hindu College of the Delhi University (DU) and joined the Campus Law Centre for an LLB degree. She registered herself with the Bar Council in 1990, and started practising in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court.

In 2014, Lekhi was elected to the Lok Sabha from the New Delhi constituency. She was re-elected in 2019 with a total of 5,04,206 votes, whereas Congress' Ajay Makan could garner only 2,47,702 votes. However, in she was one of the 6 sitting MP's of BJP who were dropped from the 2024 Lok Sabha candidates list.

Lekhi was earlier a part of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, an organisation associated with the RSS. She has also held key positions within the BJP organization as she was appointed vice-president of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha in 2010.

Meenakshi Lekhi is married to Aman Lekhi, who is the Additional Solicitor General of India in the Supreme Court.
