The Indian Railways has denied permission to the producers of the latest James Bond movie to shoot in the tunnels of the Konkan Railways.
Besides shooting on the rooftops of trains, the producers of the yet-to-be-titled movie, the 23rd in the series, had sought permission to shoot in the tunnels.
Shooting in the tunnels is prohibited owing to security reasons. We cannot give permission where security would be compromised, said Chandralekha Mukherjee, executive director, information and publicity,Indian Railways.
Railway officials said the producers had sought permission for an extensive shooting schedule in Ahmedabad and Goa. Some sequences also included leaping from the rooftops onto speeding vehicles.
We have granted requisite permission for the shooting. Now the producers have to follow it up with the officials concerned. They will have to see how they will make use of it. They have to work under the existing protocol, said the official.
Earlier,Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi had denied the makers of the movie permission to shoot on rooftops as,he felt,it showed the Railways in a bad light and is punishable under the law.
