First private sector hires? Niti Aayog taps Mohandas Pai, Sanjeev Sanyal

Sanyal’s expertise has been sought to provide inputs to PM Narendra Modi’s promise to develop 100 'smart cities'.

In what will be the first instance of private sector talent infusion in the NDA government, the newly set up National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) or Niti Aayog, has proposed to rope in Sanjeev Sanyal, Deutsche Bank’s global strategist based in Singapore, and T V Mohandas Pai, chairman, Manipal Global Education, and former member of the Infosys board, as full-time members.

According to a senior government functionary, Sanyal’s expertise has been sought to provide inputs to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to develop 100 “smart cities”. When contacted, Sanyal told The Indian Express that “there has been no formal offer”.

Pai, who was on the Infosys board from May 2000 till 2011, also said he has not been contacted.
