After Kiku Sharda, Ali Asgar aka Dadi from ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ gets anticipatory bail

Following the arrest of his co-actor Kiku Sharda, Ali Asgar famous as Dadi from Comedy Nights With Kapil, moved the Bombay High Court and was granted anticipatory bail for a week.

The case is in relation to an FIR filed against him for allegedly “hurting religion sentiments” by mimicking Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Justice AS Gadkari granted him the reprieve. “In the event of arrest, either by the Maharashtra Police or Civil Lines Police in Haryana, the applicant should be released on furnishing a bond of Rs 25,000 with one or two solvent surities in the like amount,” Justice Gadkari ordered. Ali Asgar, along with Kiku Sharda, had enacted a skit on a programme titled “Jashn-e-Ummed” aired on Zee TV in December last year following which a follower of Ram Rahim lodged an FIR in Kaithal, Haryana. (Comedian Kiku Sharda rearrested, Haryana CM Khattar says govt has no hand)

Apart from Ali Asgar and Kiku Sharda, six others have also been named in the FIR filed by Dalsher Singh, a resident of Kaithal. (Why should I alone be blamed, asks Kiku Sharda)

All eight have been booked for offences under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code for their “malicious acts intended to hurt religious sentiments”.

“The television show had no intention to hurt anybody’s religious or personal feelings,” he argued in his anticipatory bail plea filed by his lawyer Shyam Keswani.
