Don’t understand the hype about my item song: Chitrangada

The song is inspired from Madhuri's dance moves choreographed by Farah Khan.

Chitrangada Singh is the new “item girl” of Bollywood with her sensuous dance number ‘Kaafirana’ in upcoming film “Joker”,but the actress begs to differ and says she is no where close to that title.

The song sees Chitrangada bearing a striking resemblance to that of Madhuri’s look in the song ‘Humko Aajkal Hai’ from “Sailaab”.

The actress said she fails to understand why she is so much in the spotlight for just doing a song.

“Its just a song at the end of the day and I don’t understand what is the big deal about an item number. We had songs in ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and they were never termed as item songs. You just remember the song and the dance and it’s beautiful,” Chitrangada told.

“If we do it in a certain way,and there is nothing objectionable about the lyrics or dance steps. Then I don’t know why anything becomes objectionable or has to be

explained,” she added.

The 36-year-old actress also does not like being counted in the league of actors who have turned into item girls.

“I get irritated by the term item number but I understand that it is the way people understand that you are not a part of the film but just doing a song.

“I think it’s about just tagging the actor. It’s good to keep changing tags as an actor,I have been tagged before and now I have got another one,” she said.

Choreographed by Farah Khan, the song is inspired from Madhuri’s dance moves and Chitrangada says she wanted to bring about the dancing diva’s sensuousness to the song.

“I am not trying to copy Madhuri,I don’t think anybody can do a Madhuri, she is someone so special and it is a package that comes rare. We took the look that we wanted from Madhuri’s song and tried to bring in that sensuousness to the song that she carries,” she said.

The song didn’t come as an easy task for Chitrangada as she injured herself while rehearsing for it,but she is thankful that Farah changed the steps keeping in mind her

injury.

“Farah is known to be this strict choreographer but I escaped her wrath because I injured my knee while I was rehearsing. I was on pain killers and I think she just let

me go seeing me in so much of pain. She was really nice to me,” she said.

Chitrangada will be next seen in Sudhir Mishra’s “Inkaar” on sexual exploitation of women at work place.

“Inkaar’ is a love story and Arjun has done fabulously well. I have seen the rough edit and I am very excited about it,” she said.

This is the third time she is working with Mishra after her debut film “Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi” and “Yeh Saali Zindagi” with him.
