For “balanced and inclusive” development of Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sanctioned economic master plans for six regions of the state.

A statement issued by the government on Wednesday said the CM has also appointed six senior IAS officers as coordinators for the implementation of the six master plans for the six regions. The decision was taken in the weekly meeting of the Cabinet of ministers headed by CM Patel.

Quoting senior minister Jitu Vaghani, who is also a spokesperson of the state government, the statement said the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT) – a high-level think-tank of the state government – would provide strategic foresight and data-based recommendations for making the six master plans successful.

The six regions and their coordinators are Industries Commissioner P Swaroop for Central Gujarat region, Tourism Secretary Rajender Kumar for Saurashtra region, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Gujarat Maritime Board Rajkumar Beniwal for Kutch region, Municipal Commissioner of Surat Shalini Agrawal for south Gujarat region, Commissioner Geology and Mines Dhaval Patel for the coastal region of Saurashtra and Managing Director of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation Praveena D K for north Gujarat region.

Meanwhile, the CM has decided to form a Consultation Committee consisting of multiple ministers to take short-term as well as long-term decisions on various issues concerning the state. Its members will include Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and ministers Jitu Vaghani, Rushikesh Patel, Arjun Modhwadia, Pradyuman Vaja, Naresh Patel and Ishvar Patel.

During the Cabinet meeting, Vaghani said that the CM also issued instructions to the Chief Secretary and other senior bureaucrats of the state to take decisions on the basis of the discussions done in the recent Chintan Shibir and include these in the next state budget, wherever possible.

According to Vaghani, the CM also directed top officials to do “prior preparations” to make changes in any policy that is set to expire in the next six months. He said this is necessary since Gujarat is a “policy-driven state” and it is “because of these policies that the state has transparency.”
