Assam CM, scientists and Mumbai Dabbawalas to be felicitated at SIES National Eminence Awards

The 28th SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Awards will honour Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, BrahMos missile pioneers, the Mumbai Dabbawalas and other distinguished achievers at the annual Kanchi Mahaswami festival on December 13.

The Mumbai Dabbawalas and several cultural icons will also be honoured during the Kanchi Mahaswami festival.The 28th SIES National Eminence Awards will recognise leaders across public service, science, community work and arts, including Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and BrahMos missile pioneers.

The 28th SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Awards will honour a diverse group of distinguished Indians this year, including Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. The awards will be presented on Saturday, December 13, at 6 p.m. at Shanmukhananda Hall as part of the annual Kanchi Mahaswami festival.

Dr Sarma will receive the award for Public Leadership, in recognition of his governance initiatives in Assam, including job creation, land reforms, digital governance efforts and welfare support to over two million families. National surveys have consistently ranked him among India’s top-performing chief ministers.

In the Science and Technology category, the award will go to Padma Bhushan Dr A Sivathanu Pillai, founder Managing Director and CEO of BrahMos Aerospace, and Padma Shri Dr Prahlada Ramarao, the first Project Director of the Akash missile system.

Dr Pillai is widely regarded as the driving force behind the BrahMos missile, whose successful deployment played a defining role in Operation Sindoor, India’s military response following the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation has been hailed as a milestone in the country’s push for technological self-reliance.

The Community Leadership award will be presented to the Mumbai Dabbawalas, the iconic lunchbox delivery network that transports more than 200,000 home-cooked meals to office-goers every day. Their precision and reliability have long been celebrated as an essential part of Mumbai’s urban culture.

The Social Leadership and Philosophy award will go to Dr Mani Dravid Sastrigal.

Instituted in memory of Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi, the 68th Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, the awards carry a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh, a brass lamp, a shawl, a citation and other mementos. Since their inception, 113 individuals of exceptional merit have been honoured.

The festival will also feature other events, including the Kanchi Sri Jayendra Saraswati National Eminence Award in Fine Arts, to be presented to the Thrissur Brothers,  Srikrishna Mohan and Ram Kumar Mohan, on the following day. On December 20, the Sri Shanmukhananda National Eminence Award will be conferred on music veterans Dr K J Yesudas and Dr T V Gopalakrishnan.
