Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency: One of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, the Sivaganga constituency has been the bastion of the Congress, with the electorate consistently voting for the grand old party, electing former finance minister and veteran Congress leader, P Chidambaram, for the seat seven times in the Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament.
Reflecting on the 2014 elections, Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram, contested the elections from this seat but lost to AIADMK’s P. R. Senthilnathan. However, in the last Lok Sabha 2019 elections, Karti won his first Lok Sabha election with a 30.73 per cent margin, defeating the BJP’s H. Raja.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, the Sivaganga will witness stiff competition between the BJP’s Devanathan Yadav, Congress’s Karti P. Chidambaram, and AIADMK’s A. Xavierdas in the first phase on April 19, 2024, with the results being announced on June 4.
The son of former Congress leader and Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Karti Chidambaram, is the current sitting MP of Sivaganga. Despite Sivaganga being held by his P. Chidambaram seven times, Karti lost his debut 2014 Lok Sabha elections to AIADMK’s P. R. Senthilnathan. However, Karti won the following 2019 elections from the same constituency, defeating H. Raja of the BJP by a significant majority of the votes.
Devanathan Yadav, associated with the BJP in Tamil Nadu, is the founder of the Indhiya Makkal Kalvi Munnetra Kazhagam (IMKMK) and has been fielded by the BJP as a candidate from the Sivaganga constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
A. Xavierdas, representing the AIADMK – All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has been announced as the party’s candidate for the Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
