Under the Jeevanjot campaign, the District Mohali’s Regional Social Security team rescued 31 begging children during the past three days, reinforcing the district’s leading role in child rescue operations across Punjab.

Punjab Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr Baljit Kaur said that a total of 68 begging children have been rescued in Mohali since August 17, making it the top-performing district in the state in terms of rescuing children from begging.

She said that after verification of documents by the District Child Welfare Committee, three children have been restored to their parents while the remaining 28 children have been placed in child care homes until the verification process is completed. “At these homes, proper arrangements for their stay, food, care and safety have been ensured,” she said.

Dr Kaur stated that 807 begging children have been rescued and linked to the rehabilitation process across Punjab so far.

Emphasising the broader vision of the initiative, the minister said, “The Jeevanjot campaign is not limited to rescue alone. It is a comprehensive mission to take every child from the streets to school and towards a secure future.” She added that post-rescue, health check-ups, counselling, education and family rehabilitation are being prioritised to ensure that no child is forced back onto the streets.

Issuing a stern warning, Dr Kaur said that any individual or gang found involved in child begging or child trafficking will face strict action as per law. She appealed to the public, stating, “If anyone sees a child begging, instead of giving alms, immediately inform the Child Helpline number 1098.”
