A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday, within six hours after he allegedly killed a person by stabbing more than 25 times over prior enmity. Police said the arrested accused, Ankush Singh, a resident of Shivprabhat building in Asalfa, Ghatkopar (East), has two previous cases of assault registered against him in Ghatkopar.
Personnel at Sakinaka police station said the deceased, Vishal Kokane, 25, also staying at Asalfa along with his family, had eight cases of assault, kidnapping, robbery and attempt to murder registered against him at Sakinaka and Ghatkopar police stations.
According to police, Singh and Kokane knew each other and they have had prior enmity over certain issues. Six months ago, there was a fight between the two, following which Kokane and his elder brother allegedly assaulted Singh.
Police said the incident occurred around 12.45am on Sunday opposite Shivprabhat building when Kokane and Singh, under the influence of alcohol, got into an argument that turned into a fight.
In a fit of rage, Singh allegedly started stabbing Kokane. There were more than 25 stab injuries on Kokane’s body, police said, adding cctv footage in the area had captured the incident.
The mobile location of the accused was traced to Sakinaka area from where he was arrested. Police have registered a murder case against Singh. Further investigation is on, police said.
