Odisha Assembly Election 2024 Full Schedule: The tenure of the current Odisha assembly will end this year and elections are due later in the year. Previously coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections, Odisha’s 16th assembly elections were conducted between April 11 and April 29, 2019, to elect the 147 members. The Biju Janata Dal had won 112 seats and formed the state government with Naveen Patnaik as Chief Minister.

When will the Odisha Assembly Elections 2024 be held?

As the tenure of the current Odisha legislative assembly is set to end on June 2, 2024, the Odisha legislative assembly elections are scheduled to be held in or before June 2024. However, the Election Commission of India has not yet announced specific dates for the electoral process.

Odisha Assembly Elections 2024: The Present Scenario 

Odisha’s 147-member legislative assembly is led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Achieving a fifth consecutive term in office, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) currently has 130 seats in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, with the remaining being with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), and one independent member.

Odisha Assembly Elections 2024: Recap 2019

In the 2019 Odisha legislative assembly elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) secured victory, thereby forming the government for a fifth consecutive term. Conducted in April 2019, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won 112 seats out of 147, followed by the BJP at 23 and Congress at 9. The remaining were won by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and an independent candidate.

After the election, the Biju Janata Dal formed the state government, with Naveen Patnaik’s return as the Chief Minister of Odisha.
