Happy April Fool’s Day 2025: On April 1 every year, the world becomes filled with pranksters who are eager to play tricks on one another and pull off practical jokes.

This is all in celebration of April Fool’s Day, and this year, in 2025, it will be observed on April 1, Tuesday.

Historically, the day came to be after Pope Gregory XIII adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1952 and proposed that the new calendar begins on January 1 with the New Year celebrated towards the end of March.

However, the calendar shift from Julian to Gregorian began on April 1, making it the most widely accepted cause for honouring the day.

While many refused to accept the shift and continued to use the Julian calendar, France was the first country to embrace and use the new calendar.

So consequently, the legend goes, the ones who did not follow the new calendar were considered foolish and are made fun of by those who did.

According to Britannica, it is indicative of historical celebrations such as the Hilaria in Rome, which takes place on March 25.

The day is filled with jokes and laughter and is that one day in the year when people can get away with almost anything, for everything is taken in the spirit of jest. However, going overboard with pranks and jokes certainly isn’t advisable.
