Bengaluru residents are facing challenging times as temperatures soar in the city. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a scorching temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius on April 2, the highest in the last eight years and the third-highest temperature recorded in the past 15 years.
Amid the rising temperature, social media is swamped with Bengalureans sharing their ordeals and challenges due to the heatwave. A Reddit user took to the r/bangalore handle on the platform and wrote, “It’s 5:45 AM, I couldn’t sleep due to the high temperature, causing me to continuously sweat and feel drenched. I’m sweating even more than I do during my workouts at the gym.”

Soon after, fellow city residents jumped in to share their plight. “I really want the old Weather back I really miss those days,” a user commented. “This morning it’s quite hotter than other days I believe . I woke up at 5.30,and see the floors and hot, even my clothes which are kept in the cupboard are hot,” another user shared.
“Get used to it. It’s gonna be ever summer from now on. Prepare and work out your solutions. There is no escaping this,” the third user wrote. “Very unpopular trick that works for me. Just throwing it out there in case it helps. My aircon stopped working. So I wet my pajamas and a pair of socks before bed and wear it to sleep under the fan. It feels like an aircon. And I stay cool throughout the night and can sleep. I say this as someone who wakes up the second they start sweating and can’t stand the heat. Something about it is cooler and more comfortable than sweat slowly evaporating,” another user advised.
According to IMD scientist A Prasad, the average rainfall that April usually sees in Bengaluru is 61.7 mm, while the record for rainfall in the month in a single day is 108.6 mm, recorded in 2001. April 2001 recorded a total of 323.8 mm of rain.
