A bear walks into a man’s backyard: Watch the moment when they surprise each other

A strange encounter between a black bear and a man has been going viral. The video shows a man immersed in his phone while relaxing on a chair in his carport. Suddenly, a bear walks into the carport and both the man and the bear lock eyes with each other. Both of them stay completely still for a few seconds before the bear runs away.

This moment was captured on the ring camera of David Oppenheimer, at his Asheville house in the USA. On Saturday, a Twitter user named Chad Baker (@ChadBlue83) shared this video on Twitter where it gathered thousands of likes.

Commenting on it, a Twitter user wrote, “They were both oblivious to each other until that last second”. Another person wrote, “This encounter could have had several different outcomes other than this one… but thank Goodness this is the best outcome for this dude”.

While talking to WLOS, Oppenheimer said, “It definitely startled me, more because it was unexpected than because it was a bear, and it seems startled, too”. He also added that he has lived in a North Asheville home for 15 years and frequently noticed the bears in the neighbourhood. He said that people are acclimated to living alongside black bears.

Interestingly, as per Oppenheimer, the bear who came close to him had earlier tried to get to the bear-proof bird feeder by climbing up his house’s deck rail in the same morning.
