A US woman who adopted a girl with Down syndrome from India recently celebrated their first anniversary together and posted a heart-warming video on Instagram.

Megan, a mother to two boys, adopted the girl in October last year and named her Ami. Last year, she met her daughter for the first time. They travelled from India to the United States to begin life as a family of five, she said in the video. “The last year has been filled with laughter, love, and hope for the future,” says the text accompanying the video.

The video montage shows the girl playing with her siblings and mother. She is seen piggyback riding on her brother’s back and being intrigued by a Mickey Mouse toy.

“In October 2022 we became parents to the spunkiest, silliest, most beautiful “baby” girl born in India. She is smart, has the biggest heart, and rocks an extra chromosome. She was a missing piece to our family puzzle and we are so grateful to have spent one full year together. I wasn’t sure what kind of video I wanted to put together so here is some never before seen footage of our arrival in the United States and a montage of what life has been with our sweet Ami girl,” Megan wrote in the caption.

“My heart melts while watching this. Love from India,” a user commented. “You’ve given life to a child which is only a dream for many. God bless you. You have a kindest heart,” said another. “Beautiful souls attract beautiful people..God bless you and your family,” wrote a third. “I love this so much!! We’ve got three kiddos and my littlest desi girl rocks an extra chromosome too!” another person posted.

In February, the family celebrated the girl’s second birthday and decked up the house with Diwali décor.
