In a furious post on Truth Social, Trump called the publication an “enemy of the people” and dismissed the story as a politically motivated “hit piece.” “The Creeps at the Failing New York Times are at it again,” he wrote, insisting that reports he is “losing my Energy” are false.
Defending his fitness, Trump pointed to recent medical evaluations. “There will be a day when I run low on Energy… but with a PERFECT PHYSICAL EXAM AND A COMPREHENSIVE COGNITIVE TEST (‘That was aced’) JUST RECENTLY TAKEN, it certainly is not now!” he declared.
The US President also used the post to tout his record, claiming he won the 2024 election “in a landslide,” ended “8 wars,” oversaw “48 new stock market highs,” and restored the country’s global standing. “I have never worked so hard in my life,” he added.
His outburst comes as several polls show slipping approval ratings amid growing public scrutiny of his stamina and schedule.
The Times report notes that Trump now starts his official day later than he did during his first term. According to Roll Call’s presidential schedule data, Trump’s events began at 10:31 a.m. on average during his first term; now, they typically start around 12:08 p.m. The number of official events he has attended has also dropped by nearly 39% — from 1,688 during the equivalent period of his first term to 1,029 this time.
Though his working days still usually end around 5 p.m., reporters have observed moments where he appears visibly tired or drifts off message during speeches. The article says Trump has also spoken more candidly about aging and mortality in recent months.
Medical records from 2020 listed him at 6’3” and 244 pounds, categorised as obese. His 2025 report put him at 224 pounds — still overweight, but an improvement.
Trump also attacked the article’s author, Katie Rogers, calling her “a third rate reporter who is ugly, both inside and out.”
