A wedding in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has become the centre of attention after a family decided to break away from an age-old tradition. In a rare and striking departure from custom, the bride, instead of the groom, arrived with a full-fledged procession at her groom’s house, turning the ceremony into a celebration of equality and shifting norms.

Tanu, a resident of Kidganj, reached her groom Rajat’s home in Mutthiganj on November 26 with an elaborate and cheerful baraat of her own. People stepped out of their homes to catch a glimpse of the unusual “reverse baraat,” which quickly became the highlight of the night, NDTV reported.

The idea was born from the long-held wish of Tanu’s father, Rajesh Jaiswal. A father of five daughters, Jaiswal had always dreamed of giving each of them the same grand wedding festivities traditionally reserved for a son.

In keeping with his vision, the family even designed wedding invitations featuring the phrase ‘Ladki Ki Baraat‘. Adding to the symbolism, the bride’s relatives welcomed and bid farewell to the procession, customs usually observed for the groom’s side.

Tanu led the nearly two-kilometre journey seated in a traditional carriage, surrounded by vibrant lights, energetic DJ beats, and enthusiastic dancing. Curious local people crowded the streets as the festive procession made its way toward Rajat’s home.

When she arrived, the groom’s family greeted her with warmth and customary rituals. Clips from the event have since gone viral, drawing praise from social media users who applauded the family for redefining long-standing gender roles through a joyful celebration.

Residents told India Today that they had never witnessed a bride leading such an extravagant procession, and by the end of the evening, it had become the city’s most talked-about moment.
