Bali, the serene island in Indonesia, is one of the most popular beach destinations among travel enthusiasts worldwide. While the sea offers beauty and adventure, some tourists often become careless, risking their lives. A travel creator recently had a near-death experience after a massive wave hit her at Angel’s Billabong, Bali.

In the now-viral clip, travel creator Katy Johnson is seen filming a selfie video at Angel’s Billabong, surrounded by crystal-clear waters. Within seconds, a strong wave crashes in from behind, nearly sweeping her off the rocks. The video ends with her camera plunging into the water, capturing a chaotic, water-blurred view of the chilling moment.

“One rogue wave came crashing in at Angel’s Billabong like it had personal beef with me and nearly swept me right off the viewing platform and into the next life. Not the kind of baptism I signed up for!” she wrote in the caption.

Concluding her caption, Johnson warned travellers of potential danger around the sea or the ocean, urging her followers to be extra careful. “So while you’re out chasing sunsets and snapping selfies, remember your life is worth more than content. Responsible tourism means staying curious and cautious. Research your locations, be aware of your surroundings, and don’t ignore your gut if something seems a little dodgy! Many countries don’t have safety regulations like we do in the USA,” she added.

The video prompted an array of reactions from social media users, with many warning visitors of the Bali Sea. “Bali waters are no joke!! I remember i thought snorkeling would be fun. Nope lol thank goodness you’re ok!” a user wrote. “I had a similar experience when I went to Broken Beach back in 2023. One second it was calm and at the next moment, it turned into a monster ready to gallop anyone. Glad to see that you’re safe,” another user shared.

“Sudden high waves at Nusa Penida, especially at Angel’s Billabong and Kelingking Beach, are unpredictable and have caused multiple tourist deaths by sweeping people into the sea,” a third user reacted.
