The Punjab Police Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested a major drug trafficker from Kharar, Mohali, in a high-intensity operation that led to the recovery of 5.084 kg heroin, 1.681 kg ice (methamphetamine) and ₹6.50 lakh in drug money. Two of the accused’s associates, however, managed to escape by jumping off the balcony of their flat.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the operation has exposed “an active drug supply module”. The arrested trafficker has been identified as Akashdeep Singh, a resident of Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran. Police also recovered two electronic weighing scales, a bag and a white Chevrolet Cruze, which was allegedly used for delivering narcotics in the region.
According to DGP Yadav, initial interrogation shows that Akashdeep was linked to “a major drug delivery and distribution network operating across the Tricity”. He said efforts are underway to trace every link associated with the gang.
AIG A S Aulakh of ANTF Ropar range said Akashdeep and his associates were hiding at a flat in Nature Huts-3, Kharar. A team led by DSP Yogesh Kumar raided the spot, arresting Akashdeep, while his two accomplices fled. A manhunt is on to track them.
An FIR under sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at ANTF Mohali.
