Close shave for diver in Maldives: shark attempts to bite her head in chilling attack, video goes viral

In a chilling incident, a diver had a close encounter with a tiger shark after it attempted to bite off her head in the Maldives. According to The Mirror, the diver was diving on the Hulhumale island, south of North Malé Atoll, on November 15.

The viral footage shows the shark sneaking up behind the diver and grabbing her in the blink of an eye. The shark then attempted to swallow her. However, the diver narrowly escaped and eventually, the animal swam off. The diver was reportedly from China and required 40 stitches to deep cut at the back of her head.

Sharing the video on Instagram, CGTN Europe wrote, “The dramatic footage, filmed in the Maldives, shows a Chinese female tourist in the water as a large tiger shark approaches her.⁣ The shark briefly clamped its powerful jaws around the woman’s head before she managed to break free. Fortunately, the shark lost interest and swam away.⁣ The woman sustained deep lacerations to the back of her head, requiring 40 stitches.⁣”

Several users reacted to the video with one commenting, “She didn’t manage nothing, the shark was ‘just’ checking and didn’t want nothing more.” Another user wrote, “Shark was curious, they have no hands so they explore with their mouths. If he wanted her dead she would be dead.”

Last month, a video of a nurse shark attacking a scuba diver deep in the ocean in the Maldives emerged on social media. The footage showed the diver swimming among several nurse sharks and other wildlife creatures. A shark approached her and bit her leg, leaving her injured.
