Several major arterial roads, commercial zones and key junctions have recorded noticeable improvement in cleanliness.
To maintain clean, orderly and visually appealing streets while avoiding inconvenience to citizens, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has intensified its night-time street cleaning operations across key city roads.
Implemented by the health department, the initiative is showing clear on-ground results by carrying out intensive cleaning during hours when traffic movement is minimal, officials said.
Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr Pradip Thengal and Assistant Commissioner Amit Pandit, the night-time drive includes systematic waste collection, mechanised road sweeping, removal of accumulated dirt along road edges and dust clearance. The use of modern mechanised equipment along with trained sanitation teams has significantly improved the efficiency and impact of the operations, the civic administration said.
On an average, nearly 25 tonnes of waste are being collected daily through this initiative. Several major arterial roads, commercial zones and key junctions have recorded noticeable improvement in cleanliness. With reduced traffic at night, mechanised sweepers and cleaning vehicles are able to function more effectively, ensuring deeper and more consistent cleaning, the PCMC said.
PCMC officials noted that proper planning, deployment of dedicated manpower, and the use of advanced machinery have been critical to the success of the drive. The civic body has reiterated that urban cleanliness is a shared responsibility and has appealed to citizens to segregate waste at source and hand it over to municipal collection vehicles, while actively cooperating with the city’s cleanliness efforts.
