The glitz, glamour, and fashion are back on the carpet of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Just as the A-listers are serving looks on the Met Gala carpet, memes are pouring across social media.

The netizens are busy commenting on everything from outfits to the red carpet itself, which many people noted oddly resembles toothpaste. This year, a handful of memes were also devoted to a cockroach who was spotted on the carpet of the high-end event.

This year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” and the attendees paid homage to Lagerfeld’s expansive fashion legacy of leading fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, and his own label.

While the attendees mostly referenced to Lagerfeld’s signature styles like high collar shirts, Chanel tweeds, and black and white ensembles, many also based their look on his beloved pet cat Choupette.

Doja Cat, dressed in a white Oscar de la Renta gown, took a spin on Lagerfeld’s love for his cat as her facial makeup quite literally made her look like a feline. Actor Jared Leto went one step further as he showed up in a furry cat costume that resembled Choupette.

Rapper Lil Nas X, who is known for his bold looks, dressed in a full crystallised body suit by Pat McGrath and Dior Men. Many people noted that the 24-year-old’s look reminded them of the cartoon Guy Diamond from musical-comedy Trolls, a disco ball, or the character of Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz.

Indian celebrities who attended the gala were Alia Bhatt (dressed in white gown by Prabal Gurung), Priyanka Chopra (Black and white Valentino gown with Bulgari jewels), Natasha Poonawalla (Schiaparelli gown that mimicked a cat), and Isha Ambani (dressed in a black and white sari-inspired dress designed by Prabal Gurung). Interestingly, none of the Indian celebrities has received any meme treatment, partly thanks to their safe sartorial choices.
