Watch: Rashid Khan bags IPL 2023’s first hat-trick in GT vs KKR match

On the very next ball, Khan removed Sunil Narine for a duck. It was a Googly on leg and Narine tried to heave the ball which went straight to Jayant Yadav at deep midwicket.

On the third ball of the over, Khan scalped Shardul Thakur’s wicket to complete his hat-trick. Thakur had reviewed the decision but it eventually went in Gujarat’s favour.

With this hat-trick, Rashid Khan became the fourth bowler in the IPL to achieve the feat. Makhaya Nitini in 2008, Pravin Tambe in 2014 and Yuzvendra Chahal in 2022 are the other bowlers with hat-trick to their credit against KKR.

However, despite Khan’s valiant efforts with the ball, KKR won the match by three wickets courtesy of Rinku Singh’s cameo in the last over. With KKR needing 29 in the last over, the southpaw smashed five sixes in five balls to take the Knights home.

Earlier, a remarkable fifty from Vijay Shankar helped Gujarat cross the 200-run mark and end at 204/4 in 20 overs. It was a strong finish by the hosts where they scored 45 runs in the last two overs that helped them post a big total on the board.
