Teenager murdered at Oxygen Park in Chandan Nagar; five arrested, minor detained

Police arrested the five accused and detained a minor for further investigation.

The city police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of a teenage boy at Rajmata Jijau Oxygen Park in Chandan Nagar area on Saturday evening. Police have identified the deceased as Sonu alias Lakhan Balu Sakat (17), a resident of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Vasahat in Chandan Nagar.

His uncle Keshav Waghmare (32), an auto rickshaw driver, lodged an FIR at the Chandan Nagar police station against six persons.
Police have arrested five accused including Shankar Darku (20), Yash Gaikwad (19), Jankiram Waghmare (18), Mahadev Gangasagare (19), Balaji Pedapure (19), all residents of Borate Vasti in Chandan Nagar. A minor accused was also detained in the murder case, police said.

As per the FIR, on Friday, deceased Lakhan had an argument with accused Yash Gaikwad for allegedly harassing his friend’s sister. Yash, however, claimed that he was in love with her. This led to a dispute between Lakhan and Yash.

It is suspected that following this dispute, the assailants allegedly called Lakhan to the Rajmata Jijau Oxygen Park in Chandan Nagar on Saturday evening.

Around 7 pm, they allegedly attacked Lakhan with sharp weapons, leaving him in a pool of blood on the premises of the garden. Lakhan was rushed to a hospital, but was pronounced dead by the doctors, police said.
On receiving information, a team led by senior police inspector Seema Dhakane of Chandan Nagar police station launched a search for the accused.

Police arrested the five accused and detained a minor for further investigation.
