9 dead, 25 injured as explosives-laden cars crash into Pakistan military base

At nine people were killed and 25 others got injured after twin explosions struck a military facility on Tuesday in the north-western Pakistan, news agency AP reported.

The Pakistani army stated that two suicide bombers detonated their explosives near the perimeter of a sprawling military complex in Bannu, which primarily houses offices and residences for security forces.

The military did not immediately confirm any casualties, but Bannu District Hospital said at least nine people were dead. Plumes of grey smoke rose into the air, and gunfire was heard following the blasts, according to police officer Zahid Khan. Four of those killed were children, hospital officials said.

A group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban militant group claimed responsibility for the and said dozens of Pakistani security forces were killed.

Bannu is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where terrorist groups such as the Pakistani Taliban are active.

The explosions occurred after sunset, at a time when people would have been breaking their fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. A group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban, Jaish Al-Fursan, claimed responsibility for the attack, marking the third militant attack in Pakistan since Ramadan began on Sunday.

In a statement, Jaish Al-Fursan said its fighters had killed dozens of security personnel. The army has not yet provided official casualty figures.
