No ragging notice
The Education Ministry has asked universities and other autonomous educational institutions in the country to expel students who indulge in ragging. Sources in the ministry said that universities had been asked to be firm in dealing with those who harass freshers.
Iran plane hijack
The hijackers of an Iran Air Boeing 747 clashed with some of the passengers and crew members and civil aviation sources in Manama said an unspecified number of passengers were killed. The plane was first turned back but later allowed to land at Kuwait airport. The plane with 371 persons on board was hijacked while on a domestic flight. Kuwait airport was closed suddenly when the jumbo jet entered the country’s airspace.
Left Front v Congress
The Left Front chairman, Saroj Mukherjee, said that speeches of A B A Ghani Khan-Chowdhury, Union Railway Minister, during Congress (I)’s campaign for the recently-held panchayat elections created tension and ill feeling in different parts of Malda and ultimately led to the murder of 13 CPPI(M) supporters at Chandmuni village.
