In a major financial fraud, the Mohali police has booked Pritpal Singh, director of Akal Tech Infralogist Pvt Ltd, for allegedly cheating a Chandigarh resident of Rs 7 crore under the guise of an investment scheme. The FIR was registered at Sohana police station following a detailed inquiry by the Economic Offences and Cyber Crime Wing and subsequent directions from the SSP.

Complainant Deep Mahinder Grewal, a resident of Sector 28 A, Chandigarh, alleged that in 2011 he invested nearly Rs 7 crore in the company on Pritpal Singh’s “assurances of doubling the investment”. Grewal claimed he was later misled with “forged allotment letters, fake agreements and bounced cheques”, and that the plots and showrooms he was promised did not belong to the company.

According to the DSP’s inquiry report, the land promised to the complainant was never registered in his name, and several of those plots were later sold to third parties. The report notes that multiple documents bear Pritpal Singh’s signature, corroborating the allegations. Cheques issued to Grewal have bounced, and the company allegedly failed to produce any valid record of payment.

Pritpal Singh, during the inquiry, maintained that he had “offered plots” and had also “returned money through cheques”, denying any wrongdoing or intimidation. However, the DSP found his explanations unsatisfactory. After examining statements and evidence, the inquiry officer recommended registration of a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Acting on the report, the Mohali SSP directed the Sohana police to file an FIR. Police officials said further sections may be added if new evidence emerges during the investigation.
