
NEW DELHI, August 27: Youngmen Club defeated Simla Youngs 2-0 in the last match of group A of the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIL Senior Division Super League Football Championship at Ambedkar Stadium here today. At the interval, the winners led 1-0, a goal scored through inside-left Ishrat in the 33rd minute.
In an insignificant encounter, Youngmen dominated the proceedings against their opponents. The second goal was scored by Mukesh Negi in the 42nd minute. With the completion of Super League matches, the semifinal lineup has been drawn. From group A: City and I.A.F. New Delhi; Group B: Indian Nationals and Hindustan Club.
The first semifinal will be played between defending champions City and Hindustan Club tomorrow at 4 p.m. The second semifinal will take place on Saturday between Indian Nationals and Indian Air Force New Delhi, also at 4 pm.
City have missed their mericurial forward Aftab Ashraf this year as he had switched over to the newly-promoted Bengal Bombay Club. But they had a bunch of promising youngsters, including Shyam Kumar, Nageshwar Rao, Vimal Thapa and Bhupender Sharma. City have in their ranks seasoned campainer India8217;s Under-21 mid-fielder Simon Peter. He is a force to reckon with in their attacks. City beat N.D. Heroes 2-1, Youngmen 5-0, IAP N. Delhi 2-1, Simla Youngs 2-0 and drew with Moonlight 0-0.
On the other hand, Hindustan Club, consisting of many star-studded players in their ranks, can turn the tables against their opponents. In the defence line, they will heavily dependent on Mohd. Mobin, Biswanath Kundu, Sanjay Sidhu and Arjun Negi. Mid-fielders Bhupinder Rawat and Mohd. Whalid are quite capable in feeding their forwards Suman Ghosal, Hitender Rawat, Amarjit Singh Sahani and Neeraj Choudhary.
City collected 13 points from five matches to top group A. I.A.F. New Delhi remained second by getting 10 points from five matches. Indian Nationals topped group B by securing 12 points from five matches. Hindustan secured the second position with 10 points from five matches.
Rehani wins
International Mukesh Rehani regained the Delhi State Billiards title when he outplayed Varun Ahuja 1153-636 in his last encounter of the semifinal league of Delhi State Billiards Championships at the NSCI. Subhash Sood, who finished second in the league, will represent Delhi along with Rehani in the Nationals.
