Young and happening

Post his intense role in Kalyug, Kunal Khemu will be seen as a hafta collector in Traffic Signal ...

.

What is your role in Traffic Signal?

I play Silsila, who is born to a woman who makes her living by begging on the streets and at the signals. He leads 45 odd people making a living on a corner of the street, collects hafta and reports to higher authorities.

How did you prepare for the role?

We scoped around in the slums of Dharavi, for a couple of days, observing people who resembled our characters. I keenly made notes about their outfits, behaviour and language patterns.

You worked with some real life eunuchs and beggars. How was the experience?

It was a great learning experience t o see people coming from such dire straits in life, yet performing with such ease. I had to go upto Madhur to confirm these were not side artistes but actual people. Their costomes, performance and language was so genuine.

After Kalyug, you were considered the Next Big Thing. Yet the audiences did not see you in a single release in the year 2006.

At the moment I am a little selective with the roles that I accept.
